Run Man Run – Part 1

Genesis 39 tells the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife. Now Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, and was taken down to Egypt and was bought by Potiphar, who was an officer of Pharaoh and the captain of the guard. Joseph found favor in Potiphar’s sight and Potiphar made Joseph the overseer of his house and all that he had. Picking it up and the end of verse 6, “Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” All sexual sins start with lust. We see it here with Potiphar’s wife, verse 7, “…his master’s wife cast her eyes…” Potiphar’s wife saw that Joseph was handsome and she wanted him. Sexual sins are progressive. It starts with lust and has no end, no limit. Due to a tolerance that is build up in the brain most people have to go harder and deeper into porn and sexual acts to get a the high they want. This is why there is no limit to where it will take you. Jesus is very clear on his teachings about lust, “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 6 : 27 -28 ESV) Jesus is very clear, when we lust after a women (speaking to the men) we are committing adultery, we are cheating on our spouses, or our girlfriends. What is lust? It’s that second look back at a women. We see a women and something about her catches our eye and we look away, then we take a second look back to see her. It’s looking longer at a women then we should. Looking where we shouldn’t be: her chest, butt, hands, feet, legs, hair, eyes, face. Whatever part of her body that starts that stimulation in our brains we should not be looking at and if we are we are lusting. If we are undressing her with our eyes or having thoughts about her. It’s all lust, and Jesus says, it’s adultery. We have to keep our eyes in check and as believers we are called to be holy. (1 Peter 1:15) One of the things that God has shown me as I have been running Refuge is, the women that are in the porn industry, or in strip clubs, or on the streets working, they are someone’s daughter, they are a person. Same thing with women on the beach or the women standing in the supermarket. They are a person. For the women in the industry on the outside these women may look like they are having fun and enjoying themselves, dance or making a porn video, or shooting pictures for a porn magazine. How are they when they go home? How much hurt and pain are they dealing with on the inside? A lot of these women have deep hurts and wounds and they are using sex to medicate their pain and only Jesus can bring them healing. Most women in the industry have been sexually abused in some type of way. Men, we need to start looking at women as a person, and not as an object. God wants us to be faithful with our eyes. Remember the little song, “Oh be care little eyes what you see, oh be care little eyes what you see…”

In Mark Driscoll’s sermon series Real Marriage he deals with Porn in the marriage and interviews a young lady that used to be in the porn industry and is now walking with Jesus. This will open your eyes to the porn industry.
