Run Man Run – Part 2

How does Joseph handle this invitation from Potiphar’s wife? He refuses, picking it up in verse 9 of Genesis chapter 39 Joseph is talking and says “…How then can I do this great wickedness….” Adultery during this time was considered a great sin; it is even one of the Ten Commandments God later gives to Moses (Exodus 20: 14) and if one was caught in adultery the punishment was death. Now is adultery or sexual sins worse than any other sin we commit against God? No, sin is sin in God’s eyes. God doesn’t have levels of sins where one is worse than the other, consequences differ between sin, but one sin is not greater than another. All sins, are a great wickedness, because we are sinning against a Holy God. However, churches today place sexual sins in a whole box of its own and make sexual sins the worst of the worst. Another reason why the Church doesn’t want to talk or deal with sexual sins. Yet so many men are losing the battle in the area of their sexual purity. We condemn and look down on those that are struggling sexual especially if they get caught; it’s like they have leprosy. Yet I ask the question again, if this in the number one way the enemy is coming against the church, why is it not being dealt with head on, and I know that there are churches and ministries attacking this area, but for most churches they are being cowards.
The reason sexual sins are so powerful is because of the secret-ness of the sin. Porn can be looked at from anywhere, as long as you can get on the internet. The deeper one gets into sexual sins the more crafty they have to become to guard their secrets and the harder it will become to keep it a secret. Eventually one will get caught, one mistake will be made and the results are deadly. Sexual sins are a great wickedness, the lies that are involved, the money spent, the chemical addiction that is causes. Pornography rapes your mind, the shame and guilt that one deals with is over powering. It destroys lives, it destroys marriages, it destroys families. I heard a man say, “Our sickness is the result of our secrets.” What secrets do you need to let out into the light?
No matter how big of a mess we have made, Jesus wants to clean up the mess. He started by dying on the cross for our sins. No Matter how many times we fall and look at porn, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1: 9) For the believer, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8: 1) Remember God’s grace doesn’t give us permission to sin, Romans 6 deals with that issue. I am a broken man, and I thank God for His grace, mercy and love that He pours out every day!
