Milk Bone’s and Sin

A few nights ago I was sitting in the garage with our dog I got up and went to get her some Milk Bone’s out of the box. As soon as she saw me pick up the box, her entire mood changed. She sat up, mouth half-open, tail about to fall off, eye’s locked in. As I pulled three bones out you can see the drool starting to come out of her month. I sat down and she did everything she could do to get me to give her a bone. I had complete control over her. I put one of the bones in my hand and started to move it back and forth and her head would move with the bone. The power that I had in my hand over my dog. I would fake throw the bone over to the corner and she would turn around just looking and waiting to hear the sound of the bone fall on the floor. After a few seconds her noise was to the ground searching hard after the bone. Once she realized she been fooled she would be right back in front of me waiting for the bone. What changed my dog’s mood from being tired after a good walk; to up and excited about getting a Milk Bone? Her brain chemistry had changed. My dog’s brain associated the red Milk Bone Box with food and pleasure. Addictions are the same way. Those that have addictions, the brain rewires itself and creates new neurological pathways within the brain. Dr. Judith Reisman who is the President of The Institute for Media Education states, “Pornography not only influences behavior but also actually alters brain chemistry, making children most vulnerable to its toxic imagery.” Dr. Reisman goes on to say, “Thanks to the latest advances in neuroscience, we now know that emotionally arousing images imprint and alter the brain, triggering an instant, involuntary, but lasting, biochemical memory trail.” For those who struggle with porn, they have an unlimited supply of the images that continues to keep the brain active. One that struggles with another type of drug will run out of the substance and will start coming down off of their high, until they replace the substance. With porn, our brains are a big memory box, and those images are stored in our brains, so all one has to do is start thinking on those images and our brains will reacted to that and the chemicals that affect those pleasure areas will start to be unleashed and then the brain is going to need more, so the one struggling with porn starts to seek out the porn to continue to get their high. Now the good thing is the brain can repair itself, but this takes time. It can take up to 24 months for one who use hard-core drugs for their brain to heal, and Dr. Jeffrey Satinover who is a Psychiatrist and Professor at Princeton says, “Modern science allows us to understand that the underlying nature of an addiction to pornography is chemically nearly identical to a heroin addiction.” It can take up to 24 months for a person’s brain to heal from viewing porn. For those who are getting help with an addiction to pornography, they have to understand they are going to have to fight through withdraw. Switching gears, I believe Dr. Reisman makes a good point; children are the most vulnerable to this deadly addiction, because their brains cannot handle the amount of chemicals that are moving around in their brains when they are looking at porn. Statistics show the average age child views porn at age 11, and I believe some children are getting exposed at a much early age due to technology and parents not protecting their children from the dangers of the internet. Parents we have to be protecting our children. Sin destroys our lives, it destroys our bodies. By Jesus’ death on the cross He has set us free from the power of sin. The road to recovery and healing is not an easy road, it is a very painful road. The road to recovery is a road that we do not have to travel alone. Jesus is willing to travel it with us; I am willing to travel it with you as well, because it is a road that I am already walking on. There are others on this road as well that I know is willing to walk with you. The first step to getting on the road is to letting someone you know that you are struggling. It is the biggest step you have to take, but it is the most FREEING step you can take. To God Be The Glory.
