Our Identify Part 4 – “BUT”

The word “But” can bring some very good news. As we have been looking at the flesh and our state of being we are not doing so well spiritually. We are born spiritually DEAD, and now we are going to learn that we have to pay for our sins. The first part of Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death.” The payment for our sins is an eternal death, a total separation from God for eternity. A payment we have to pay with our lives. How long is eternity? Well if a bird flew from the West coast to the East coast each year and picked up one grain of sand until all of the sand from the East coast from the tip of Florida to the top of Maine was gone, Eternity would have just begun. Now think about the thousands of grains of sand you can pick up in our hand. Our minds cannot comprehend how long eternity is, it is forever. Hell, yes Hell is the place where one spends eternity away from God. God created it, it is a real place, and Jesus speaks more about Hell than He did about Heaven during His time here on earth. “For the wages of sin is death” BUT, oh thank God for the word BUT. The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “BUT THE FREE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.” Jesus died on the cross so that we would not have to die for our sins. He died in our place! He died so that we may live, and live a life of freedom! Isaiah 53: 5-8, “But he was wounded for our transgression; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every one – to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Jesus went to the cross and took the full wrath of God upon Himself, so we would not have to take it. The gift is FREE! We just have to accept the gift and ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins. Then God begins to meet our needs and our lives are forever changed. At salvation (when we give our lives to Jesus), God takes us spiritually from death to life and places us into Christ. What does this mean? We will look at this next time. “BUT THE FREE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.”
