Luke I am Your Father…

My son, Luke, is a huge Star Wars fan. Disney was very smart in targeting the younger generation of kids when they came out with their Star Wars Rebels show on the Disney Channel. My son can tell me who the characters are for all the Star Wars movies, T.V shows that have been made. He knows the story lines, what all the different vehicles are for and who’s they belong to. He knows about the plants and the people groups that live on those plants. My son knows Stars Wars backward and forwards with great detail. You may know someone like this, that just knows the workings of a fictional story inside and out with great detail.

The other day I stop my son and I said, “What if you took the time and energy that you put into your fictional stories and you put them into God’s Word, to know God’s Word backward and forwards in great detail like you know Star Wars.?” This was a big question/challenge for him. This is a big question and challenge for us. It’s sad to say but we may know more about the inner workings of a fictional story or some other topic in the world than we do about God’s Word. Jesus says, in Matthew 4:4, But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” We need food to live without food we will die. God’s Word is our spiritual food and in order to survive spiritually, we have to eat. We have to be in God’s Word everyday learning and studying, and please don’t make the excuse that I just don’t have time. How many hours a day do we spend on social media, a T.V show that is not adding anything to our lives, a hobby that takes up all of our time extra time? There is time somewhere in our day that we can spend 30 minutes to an hour with the Lord. This might mean we need to get up an hour early in the morning before the day is running at full speed. This might mean we need to change our priorities and our daily schedules around. God’s not asking for much, He is just asking that we spend time with Him.

  1. Hey Steven, we are located in the Houston, TX area, more specifically Katy, TX to the West of Houston. We have 10 meetings per week with somewhere between 10 to 20 men attending the meetings. This also includes a Telemeeting on Fridays at noon where a few guys call in. Thanks for all you do for Christian men in the area of Sexual Purity.

  2. Thank you for sharing. I will take a look at your video’s. I also enjoyed looking at your website. Where are you guys based out of and how many men do y’all have attending your meetings and how many meetings are you guys running? We are focused on training leaders of local churches to be able to disciple their own members who are dealing with sexual purity issues. We also provide training for parents in order for them to be able to train their children in the area of sexual purity and teach them about the gift of sex.

  3. Great post. One thing I have come to understand is that there can be deeper meaning in fictional works. Just like Jesus spoke in parables with deeper meanings so too do filmmakers and authors sometimes create works that carry deeper meanings. The Star Wars Saga is one of those works. I encourage you and your son to watch these videos I made concerning the redemption of Darth Vader. There are also other videos on the ministry site showing similar Christian and recovery meanings that can be found in these movies.
